Reliving the traumatic event - i.e. flashbacks and/or nightmares
Avoiding people or situations that remind you of the event
Having increased negative thoughts and feelings
Feeling on edge, jumpy, or hypervigilant
Other symptoms
You may also be trying to cope in unhealthy ways such as using drugs or alcohol and may experience other unwanted symptoms such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, mood swings, and more.

You do not need to be diagnosed with PTSD to benefit from EMDR therapy. People experience many other non life-threatening traumas such as childhood neglect, verbal or emotional abuse, alcoholism in the family, witnessing domestic violence, growing up with parents getting divorced, etc. People with developmental trauma and having grown up with insecure attachment to primary caregivers can also greatly benefit from EMDR therapy.
